Newborn Cloth Diapering

After months of hypotheticals, estimating, researching and best guesses I finally get to put my newborn cloth diaper stash to work!  My little guy arrived in early February and my first go at true newborn cloth diapering has begun (my daughter was already 4 months when I first started cloth diapering her).  Since there have been a lot of discussions and questions about newborn cloth diapering on this blog and on the Diapershops’ Facebook page I thought I might try to give you my real-time, as-I-go experiences to give moms of newborns (or soon to be) an idea of what they might encounter in the first weeks and months.  To give you as much info as possible, my little man was 7 lbs 12 ounces and 20 ½ inches at birth.  I put his first cloth diaper on him at two weeks.  My hat is off to all of you moms that start right away (even in the hospital!) but I gave myself a little leeway and waited until life started to have some sort of normalcy before going all cloth. Two Weeks Old: At two weeks he is now 8 lbs 10 ounces and 21 ½ inches.  His umbilical stump is still on so the only diapers that I have that will go under his stump are the Rumparooz Lil Joeys and the Imse Vimse Organic Cotton Cover.  I love …

The Swim Diaper Trials

On our recent vacation to St.Barts I was so excited to use our swim diapers early then expected. In Maine the water just isn’t warm enough to go swimming until the end of June. My 11 month old Riley just loves his baths so I was assuming he would love the warm Caribbean water (I thought wrong- keep reading!) . I grabbed the Imse Vimse Swim Diaper in Size Large that we used at the older kids birthday swim party in February and went to the back room of the shop and pulled a Bummis Swim Pant in size Medium Sea Lions. Check…2 more items packed on my list. Our first full day in St.Barts we woke up and had a wonderful breakfast. All sorts of homemade breads and croissants and the butter- was just divine! (No I didn’t stay on my Weight Watchers diet!) After breakfast we went back to our room and changed. I put Riley in his new Bummis Swim Pant and we went to the pool which was overlooking the ocean. After finding a couple good lounge chairs with umbrellas to shield some of the hot sun and thoroughly applying the sunscreen Scott scooped up Riley and I trailed behind with the camera. Our little guy stood ankle deep in the pool and didn’t want to go further. He just didn’t want to go in…however I …

In love with my Imse Vimse Swim Diapers…

I had one swim diaper that I got when my oldest started getting on the water at 6 months old to save money. I would always use that diaper under her bathing suit (it wasnt cute enough to be uncovered), and when I needed, I would use disposables swimming diapers… By that time, I was a full time disposable diaper user, which Im 100% was because nobody ever mentioned me cloth diapers… That same cloth swim diaper was used by my second daughter, and then my third daughter. However, it was not working fine with my third daughter. My first two daughters were very chubby, however my youngest is very skinny… It was too bulky to put it under her tiny bathing suits, and it was too ugly to use it by itself (Ok, I have to be fair, it was not *that* ugly… I just think that it may have looked better on a boy). Anyway, I was planning a weekend away, plus a 7 days vacations the following week with my hubby and girls, so I decided to order a couple of Imse Vimse swimming diapers from Kelly’s Closet and get a top for them.. .They looked soooo cute that I didnt want to cover them!! We decided to get a solid red and a Turquoise Sea Animals, both in size large. My daughter is very skinny and …
