The Five Types of People You May Encounter In a Facebook Group

Facebook groups, you’re in at least a few right? They are a great way to connect with a brand, retailer, or group of people with similar lifestyles or interests. If you’ve spent any amount of time in a Facebook group you’re sure to have met at least a few of these! The Advisor This member is the first to give advice for any situation, whether they’ve experienced it or not.  They might be a more seasoned parent or someone with a great aunt who has tried it all.  Usually shares good info, sometimes has laugh worthy suggestions! The Overwhelmed Parent Things are piling on, there’s been little sleep, little down time, and everything sets them off.  May come across as complaining but are truly looking for support and others who have been there and made it through.  Hopefully the Cheerleader sees their posts and gives them a nice boost! The Doctor Diagnoses every twitch, bump, cough, baby baldness pattern, and may give an unsolicited “that doesn’t look right”.  Well-meaning but usually Dr Google is the extent of their medical knowledge.  Often has a solution for anything and everything but it’s best to check with your actual doctor before trying any remedies. The Cheerleader Always has something positive to say,  especially on posts with few responses.  Often writes something inspiring or comforting on an Overwhelmed Parent’s post.  She (or he) posts …

How Cloth Diapers Saved My Life

I entered the world of cloth diaper groups with some trepidation. What was I getting myself into? All of these women were talking about cloth diapers and babies and REALLY personal confessions and strange terms that had no meaning to me, and it was scary. But, the distraction from my 1 ½ year old was nice and we were in a new state, I couldn’t drive, and I had no friends, so I needed adult interaction. Pretty soon, through much trial and error, I even found that I could be helpful! The first time I successfully gave advice was a confidence boost I sorely needed (and the first time I needed to be corrected was a much needed ego check). I stayed in the Kelly’s Closet group through my second pregnancy. I posted here and there about how it was going, though I’m pretty sure I didn’t mention my antepartum depression (depression during pregnancy) because I had it under control and I didn’t want people to know anything really personal about me.  Baby girl arrived and my antepartum depression morphed into postpartum depression. Since I was still able to control it, I only mentioned it once in awhile, continued with things as normal. Then, at 11 months postpartum (after exactly 1 postpartum period), I got an unwelcome positive sign on a pregnancy test. My world was sent spinning. Having a …
