Keeping Little Ones Safe in Large Crowds

As we approach warmer weather in the coming months, many of us will want to take our little ones to festivals, amusement parks, and other indoor and outdoor events. The thought of huge crowds of adults towering over our children at these events can be a little daunting. I have gathered a few tips from online and other parents on how to stay safe in crowded places that I would like to share with you.  One of my favorite “tools” to staying safe in large crowds is the amazing baby carrier. My favorite brand is the Tula carrier. This soft structured carrier has wonderful adjustment straps and thick padding for the shoulders so I can wear my baby for hours at a festival with no back pain! Baby stays close to you and will not go anywhere. There are also toddler carriers to keep your toddlers from running away. Baby carriers are great because unlike strollers, you can walk up stairs with ease without needing to find a ramp and you can walk through crowds a lot easier. Before carriers came into my life, we once took our toddler and infant to a festival. Toddler was walking and baby girl was in the car seat in the stroller. Needless to say after a few minutes, my toddler wanted in the stroller so we had to carry baby girl in the …

7 Things I Will Do Differently with the Next Baby

Being a parent is a tough job! Now that my husband and I have a toddler we often chit chat about what it was like when he was a newborn and what we want to do differently the next time we become parents. Here is our list: 1.       With baby #2 I will use newborn cloth diapers. With the first baby I really had no clue what I was doing. I was hesitant to build a stash of diapers before his arrival. It took awhile to get a wash routine. Now that I have a good grasp on cloth diapers, I know which styles work for our family and have built good sized stash, I will definitely start cloth right from the beginning. I realize there is nothing to be afraid of when it comes to cloth diapers now, that infant poop isn’t so scary once you have a toddler!  2.       When it comes to the next baby I will do less caring. I don’t mean less caring for the baby. I mean less caring about what others think. With #1 I did a lot of unnecessary worrying about what others thought of my decisions as a mom. I worried about what others thought of breastfeeding, what I was wearing (or not wearing), how my baby was dressed, opinions about using cloth diapers, opinions about where and how my baby …

Baby it’s cold outside! Babywearing in the Winter

If you’re like me and aren’t lucky enough to hibernate all winter long or move south until summer comes back, bringing baby out into the cold is inevitable. If you have an older child too, it’s a guarantee with all the sledding, snow angel making and ice skating they want to do! It doesn’t have to be unbearably cold for you or baby though. Babywearing is a great way to keep you both warm and happy. Any style of carrier works in the winter, but some are more convenient than others. Wraps are warm, but the dangling ends are more likely to get wet or dirty from wrapping outside. You can avoid this by wrapping before you leave. I prefer a soft structured carrier (ssc) like Lillebaby, Onya or Tula because they are quick and easy to put on and take off. If you are able, try putting your child in the carrier while still in the car to avoid the shocking blast of cold air. If that is not an option, speed is of the essence! Have your carrier on and ready to put baby in when you open the car door. For quick trips outside like running into the store, I suggest bringing a small blanket that you can tuck around baby until you get inside. You should not dress them in too many layers if you won’t …

Eight Things I Love from Kelly’s Closet that are NOT Cloth Diapers

Did you know Kelly’s Closet sells so much more than cloth diapers? As our family is now complete with our two babies, I’m finding my diaper buying days are coming to a close. Here are some of my favorite products that are NOT cloth diapers. Marcus and Marcus Bath Toys. These bath toys are the best! They appear to be your traditional bath squirters but, they screw apart so you can clean them! Worry no more about mold in your bath toys these are perfect combination of fun for kids and peace of mind for parents!  Funky Fluff Double Pocket Bag. As we all know cloth diapers can be a bit more bulky than disposable diapers. This means navigating the diaper bag can be that much more frustrating when you need that snack bag NOW! The wet/dry bag eliminates the issue. Put your clean diapers in one side, as the get dirty pop them over to the other side. You have to bring a wet bag anyway, so why not maximize what you bring and help keep that diaper bag organized. These will also work well for sports, swim, and travel well into the future.   Baby Bits, Thirsties Wipes and CJ’s spray. Not for baby, for mom! I am horrible about washing my face at night so finding something quick an easy was key! Take your Thirsties wipe and spray …
