Love Notes: 6 Reasons Why We Love Thirsties and You Will Too!

It never fails. Every time. No matter what diapers are on top, we always dig through and find a Thirsties cloth diaper. Not only are they my favorite, these diapers are the top pick for both my husband and mother-in-law too! We love so many things about Thirsties brand diapers! When we started our cloth diapering journey sixteen months ago, we only had four Thirsties diapers and now after trying so many other brands, we still keep reaching for them over all the others. Here are the six big reasons why Thirsties diapers are our favorite and what keeps us coming back for more… The Company – Made in Colorado, we love that they are made in the USA, even down to the packaging they come in. On top of that, 90% of the fabrics and materials that are used to make these high quality diapers are sourced in the USA. Their customer service is exceptional and they are so helpful with any questions and concerns! Returned diapers are repaired (if possible) and then donated to families in need. They recycle all their scrap material and have a 100% windpowered warehouse they distribute their diapers from. The Choices – Everyone has a favorite style of diaper. My husband loves the ease and fit of hook and loop. I love using natural fibers on our baby’s bum. We prefer covers and …

Confessions of a Cloth Diaper Dad

At first I thought to myself that my wife had gone insane. I had no clue how advanced and modern cloth diapers were. I still had the impression that my baby could possibly be poked with a pin and that was not happening in my watch! I was surprised to see how far things had come and how easy most cloth diapers could be. However that opened a different world filled with terminology like pockets, all in ones, prefolds, flats (which other than a trifold I have not mastered), and all in twos just to name a few. Who knew there were so many and different rules that applied to all of them in terms of prepping. My favorite type of diaper would definitely have to be snaps with pocket cloth diapers, although I must say I will make the exception with the Bambino Mio cloth diaper. I would have thought that I would have been an aplix type of guy but it turns out that after a while I do not like how they get and I personally like snaps. Dads cloth diaper too but you have to be committed. You have to accept the fact that it is not disposable and you have to learn how to protect the cloth diapers more so than regular laundry. Guys let me tell you now. They start sweet, promising to do …

Featured Product: SoftBums Cloth Diapers

Even before we were expecting our first little one, I knew I wanted to explore the world of cloth diapers.  I would read tidbits here and there, gleaning what knowledge I could about all sorts of things that I didn’t understand (FTS? AI2??). When we found out we were expecting, I dove into full-on research mode to determine where our cloth diapering journey would begin. After learning about the different styles of cloth diapers, I knew that I didn’t want a mixed stash: how would I keep track of what went with what, how they all worked, etc.? I wanted something easy and consistent.  I also wanted something that would fit baby from birth through potty training, no double-stashing here!  Then I stumbled on SoftBums cloth diapers and knew this was the diaper for us!  We’ve been a SoftBums exclusive family since our daughter was hours old, and are still going strong without issue 8 months later. SoftBums seem to be a lesser-known brand of diapers, but highly worth exploring.  Made in the US, often by mothers, the quality of these diapers is quickly apparent.  While SoftBums main offerings are solids, they do offer a range of prints with new releases throughout the year.  This doesn’t bother me at all, as I’m a solids kinda gal.  Solids are more easily matched with outfits as I don’t worry about two prints clashing …

The Crunchy Side to Daddy

Originally when I decided to use cloth diapers my husband gave me the classic “god you’re SUCH a hippie” response he usually gives me when I tell him that I want to start a compost, or that I want to have an all natural childbirth and delayed cord clamping. Not until after I told him how expensive disposable diapers are, how often we would have to buy them and JUST how bad they were for the environment, did he even consider it. The fact that his mother wasn’t into the idea didn’t help, but ultimately he trusts me and let me make my own decision. Plus I’m the only one who changes diapers anyway, let’s be truthful. Now? Now he is ALL about cloth..ehem excuse me “Fluff”. We went out to dinner with some of his friends one night and one of them brought up that we cloth diaper…a friend I had never met before so obviously my husband is talking about it at work! By the way, my husband is in the army, the infantry to be exact, and let’s just say they aren’t known for their “hippie” ways. So to find that my husband is sharing my, as he would call it “crunchy” habits at work with all his army buddies made me feel proud. He likes to make fun of me for buying more than we need …
