Unsung Reasons To Love Cloth Diapers

Usually if you ask someone why they use cloth, they’ll tell you one of four things:

  1. Cloth Diapers are cheaper than using disposables. (this is the main reason I use them).
  2. Cloth Diapers are healthier than using disposables (the other huge reason I use cloth; I mean have you looked into all the chemicals in ‘sposies? Eek!)
  3. Cloth Diapers are better for the environment (I have to admit, this had little to do with my decision)
  4. Cloth Diapers are just plain cuter than disposables! (#SorryNotSorry its undeniable! )

But there’s so many OTHER good reasons to love cloth diapers!

Reasons like:

  • I can wipe off the outside of the diaper after a meal and not have to change it! (Because admit it, I’m not the only one who lets their toddler eat with just a diaper on!)
  • Handing the baby a clean diaper to hold to keep him busy while changing him – and not having to worry about what’s going in his mouth if (when) he chews on it. Also I don’t have to worry that he’ll rip it apart!

When the diaper is no longer suitable for its original purpose, it can still be useful!

  • Use delaminated diapers that are still in good repair otherwise for swim diapers! – If the diaper is ripped or not needed for swimming you can always use it for rags.
  • Artsy moms can transform a solid diaper into a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art. I’ve seen all sorts of pictures online where someone took a plain diaper (like a white bumGenius for example) and some fabric markers and made an awesome diaper! Some were just for fun but others were to commemorate an important event! Events like: Soldiers coming home, 1st birthday, A wedding, First Christmas (Easter, St Patrick’s, Fourth of July. ..etc)

Another cool thing about the cloth diaper world is when you find a diaper with the same name as your child (Albert for example), or a symbol of a charity you support, or even a symbol of a disease that someone in the family has! (For example Patch has a purple butterfly. To me Purple Butterflies are a symbol for Fibromyalgia, which I have, so I would love to have Patch even though I have a boy!) ( *note* patch was not designed as a Fibromyalgia symbol, its just personally symbolic.)

On the topic of finding diapers with special meanings, sometimes a diaper company will make a diaper specifically to support a special cause, like Grovia’s Little Warrior diaper. Grovia teamed up with Spray-Pal to treat the Little Warrior in honor of Ryan or #MiniSpraypal2.0 I’m not sure on details but proceeds from this diaper go to The March of Dimes! Super cool right?

When you’re done with your diapers, if they’re still in good repair, you can pass them on to a friend or donate to one of the programs that provide diapers to those who can’t afford to purchase their own! Giving Diapers, Giving Hope is a non-profit cloth diaper bank that is always accepting donations.

So what cool thing do you love about using Cloth Diapers?

My favorite, practical reason for using cloth diapers is they contain the poop! Even the big explosive ones! And all the other reasons you mentioned, too 🙂 Ferne from http://www.kebbiesdiaperbag.com is who got us off to a great start on our cloth diapering journey!
