I would probably just travel with my Flip system as those are the only diapers we own. The stay-dry inserts and prefolds and covers are easy enough to wash in the sink or tub if worse comes to worse and hang to dry. The only problem with disposable inserts is you need to have enough to last the entire trip and that would just take up too much room.

I would definitely do a hybrid system with disposable inserts. You never know what the laundry facilities are going to be like, so handwashing is going to be easiest, and I'd much rather handwash covers than inserts.

The choice would depend on where I'm travelling to: if it were a place with less (or no) access to modern conveniences such as a washer and dryer, I would choose prefolds and wool for the easy to wash routine. Otherwise, I'd probably go with something one-size and more compact like GroVia – to save space!

Hm, I think I'd use a combination of pockets-simply because they hold more and either Flip with cloth inserts or the diposable inserts. I guess it would have to depend on whether or not I could wash my diapers. I really like having absorbancy, but the bulk is sometimes a hinderance!

OMG this is perfect for me! We cloth diaper and are leaving for England on the 23rd for a little over 2 weeks! I have been looking at the flip but also have some gro baby covers and the disposable biodegradable soaker inserts! I would love to try a flip! I also love that you can then use with washable inserts too so it is the perfect combo of a travel diaper and regular use diaper!

I would use some sort of hybrid/AI2 system if I were travelling overseas. They take up way less room than other styles, and there is less laundry to do since more of the covers/shells can get re-used.

If I were traveling overseas I think I would resort back to my faithful prefolds and covers. They are by far my most absorbant diaper and my covers have never failed me. Prefolds would be very easy to hand wash along with the covers when necessary. And you could pack plenty (without taking up too much room) to get through many days without washing if necessary.

Gosh, good question… Depending on where we went, I'd probably have to go with a hybrid system because it would probably be more difficult to have continual access to a washing machine. Luggage space also often becomes an issue, so I might want something that didn't have much bulk. If I was totally convinced, however, that I would have my own laundry access (like that at a vacation rental), then I would have no problem lugging an extra bag full of our pocket diapers.

I would take my FLIPs with disposable inserts. The covers are so easy to wash, we could wash them in the sink if need be. And they hang dry super fast. They are thin and lightweight, so I could bring a bunch without using up my suitcase room. And the inserts are less bulky than disposables, so it would be easy to travel with a pack or two (depending how long the trip was). LOVE my FLIPs!!

I would probably take the Flips, because they are trim, have less to wash, and you can use the disposable inserts in a pinch. I have been using Flips for a while now, and just ordered my first pack of disposable inserts to try out. If I like them, I will order more to take with me on my long business trips!

  176. Cali said...

If I was traveling overseas I would probably use the bumgenius flip diaper system. I used a couple of these when visiting family for a week and they work well when you don't have alot of extra space to be taking a stack of diapers. You can just take a couple covers and a stack of inserts with you. I haven't tried the disposable inserts, but those could be handy during the flight.

  177. Kelly C said...

Honestly, if traveling overseas, I would probably do disposables. EEKAHD!! Did she just say disposables??? Yes! For a trip of that magnitude, with the plane, and the traveling, not knowing what shops over there might have, and laundering, etc. it would just be easier to do the disposable route. I love my cloth, but for big trips like this…it would be more work than good. How can we fix this??

Overseas I would probably use gdiapers if it were a fairly short trip. But thanks to an article a while ago, I would consider having the place I stay wash them because almost every place I stayed in Asia would wash your clothes for you. I would probably only take prefolds because I don't want to lose my pockets.

As for disposables, it is not a good idea to take those to some countries. I have a friend that lives in Pakistan, and whenever people visit her with disposables she asks them to take it home with them! This is because she is responsible for disposing of her own trash – by burning it. Guess what…

    DISPOSABLES DON'T BURN!

Yet another reason to use cloth.

  263. If I were traveling overseas, I would use prefolds and one-size covers. They might be a little more hassle to tote around, but the flexibility would win out. If traveling overseas I think I would use a combination of some Gro-babies (Grovia) with snap-ins as well as some of the biodegradable/compostable liners this would be for the flight. In addition I would bring a few wool covers (longies, shorties, wraps depending on the weather) with some fitteds and pre-folds, bummis fleece stay dry liners and some bummis flushable liners. The wool make great travel covers as they don't have to be washed very often just hung to dry for a little while.

We are actually planning a cruise this December and Im either going to use embellished prefolds and bring my grovia covers for nighttime or only use grovia shells with flush-able inserts. However…if I was traveling for an extended period of time I think I might just take wool and prefolds or flats as they can be washed easily in "regular" facilities and not have to be stripped when we return. Wool is SOOO easy to care for and I don't think people full appreciate it.

I would use disposables. Since it would be overseas and an airplane would definitely be involved I'd want to save my luggage space for things I could not buy while there. So I'd likely pack a few disposables to get me through the plane ride and first day and then buy disposables whereever we were. Not the most cloth friendly answer but I think it'd be the most logical for us. We've done lots of road trips this summer and have loved our GroBaby diapers for that purpose though.

OK, I can speak from experience here and, though it's not the answer you'd like to hear, when we went to Germany and Austria in May for two weeks, we used 7th Generation disposables for travel. We had VERY limited access to laundry, and the European washers use WAY less water, so I was concerned about cleanliness. It ended up being the most convenient and "doable" option – though we were happy to get home and back to our cloth diaps!

I'd consider using my prefolds and Thirsties but if I ended up having to pay extra for more luggage then I'd probably bring disposables. I'm really interested in the FLIP diapers so if they packed easily then I'd consider taking them.

To be honest, I would likely do disposables for overseas travel. It would just be easier then having to wash.

  644. If I were traveling overseas I would probably use something with a disposable inner, like the G diapers. Though I have throwing things in the trash, the G diapers are biodegradable. I think it would be very convenient as opposed to my regular pocket dipes.

I haven't actually started cloth diapering yet…(wasn't enlightened with my first, second due in Jan.) but I would think one of the hybrid systems with the disposable inserts would make sense!

I would probably try a hybrid system. Or I Might just use the diapers I have and find a laundry to wash them in. They dry fast it just takes one cycle in the dryer.
