I save at least $30 a week using cloth!

Probably upwards of $15. I don't recall how much generic disposables cost (haven't used them in over five years), so it's totally a guess. But in a month, when the Beastling is born, I suspect it'd be closer to $30 a week.

I probably save about $15 to $20 a week minimum using cloth as I went on vacation and used sposies and needed 2x 30 diaper packs for the trip!

Well, considering no more money comes out of our bank account, I consider every single diaper free money in our checking account. I last bought 'sposies almost a year ago and it was $10 for enough to last about half a week, so probably $20 a week (fyi I gave half the pack away after finishing our move.)

Thanks for the 'discussions' entry. I had a good laugh at a soon to be mom asking if the boy and girl diapers were any different from bum genius. If so, I've never noticed it!

If I were to use sposies I'd use Tushies most likely since they're gel free and cotton. A week's worth would probably cost us $44 for a box of 120. So we're almost saving $50 a week if we used 10 diapers per day and if you count wipes too!

I imagine the savings per day varies depending on the size disposable diaper you would use. For me since I'll be diapering a newborn soon, I looked at diapering a newborn with approx. 12 changes a day. That's close to $3.30 per day in disposables.

Answer: Not much currently LOL. Because I keep buying cloth diapers. But really if I wasn't buying anything because I really have enough in my stash I'd say at least $12 to $15.5 a week.

    My best guess-timate…$25/per week.

I have three kids (3 mo, 2 yrs, 4 yrs). My oldest still wears diapers at night. My middle child is at that stage where she wants to use the potty and constantly takes off her diapers and with disposables would toss them in the trash.

I use cloth wipes as well so that saves some, especially since my second born was caught multiple times 'stealing' disp wipes to clean or whatever.

Assuming an average of 12 diaper changes per day (for my soon-coming newborn), I estimate that we'll save about $15.50 per week. assumptions: initial cd investment= $500; disposibles = $35 for 150; and our little blueberry potty trains around 2.5?

Overall savings over the course of blueberry's diapering life is around $2000. Subsequent 'berries' will amount in extra savings. This is assuming I stick to the $500 initial investment & don't go nuts over fluffies!

  85. Erin said...

We haven't started cloth diapering yet (I'm expecting in May), but we've estimated that when she's a newborn, we could save about $25.00 per week.

Depends on how you look at things – I save at least $20 per week by not using disposables, however, my obsession with cloth has gotten expensive and I probably get a new diaper twice per month, so all said and done I might only save $10 a week right now, but hopefully I can stop myself from buying more for a while so that I start to really see a difference in my savings!

I have no idea how much money we save a week…it has been so long since I bought disposables! Seems how when we DO (rarely) use them we use Seventh Generation, I would guess it would cost us between $10-$14 a week. But we are getting ready for another baby…which would make the cost $20-$28 a week. I think the $10 I budget a month towards cloth diapering (and then buys something ever 2-3 months) is just a drop in that bucket!!!

That's a good question because I don't know how to answer–I wash using community laundry room and pay $1.75 per load (wash and dry). But I have two kids in diapers, and many of my diapers are being reused from the first kid. But whenever I do use disposables, I use the expensive "natural" kind. So it is too complicated and I've never bothered figuring it out; I'm just content to know that I like cloth better, it is better for my kids and the environment, it is cute, and I may be saving some money.

  171. Jamie said...

I think I save about $10 a week cloth diapering.

  172. Tupy said...

Let's see, my 13 month old is in size 6 diapers. If I were to buy a big pack of pampers cruisers from target that would be 100 diapers for $41.99.

    So that's 20 days worth of diapers at 5 changes per day. ($41.99/100) x 5 = $2.10 per day.

$48 worth of prefolds (24). $76.5 worth of covers. Used the same size for the last 6 months (182.5 days) so at 6 diapers/day that's roughly $.68 for every 4 days. So $.17/day (two cents per diaper change).

    Savings = $1.93/day!

Over the course of a year that's $704.45!

I have a boy too and they potty train later, right? 😀

Before we started using cloth diapers we went through about a box of diapers a week with 2 children so, that's about $20-25 a week! It's been so nice not having to buy diapers! We haven't bought any disposables in over 2 months!! How great is that?

  189. larsonck23 said...

We probably save about 100.00 per week cloth diapering our triplets! We go through about 10 diapers per child per day, whew! Thaqnk goodness for my friend Jessi talking to me about cloth diapering and how easy it was to do, I will NEVER go back to disposables!

I've never really used disposables so it's hard to say how much I spend. I used them for the first few weeks of her life until we had about 9 diapers in our stash and then I just washed them A LOT. From those few weeks, I'd say I use about a package of pampers swaddlers (I liked them as far as disposables go) a week and they're around @20. I broke even for awhile, because I always bought pocket diapers so every few weeks I'd just buy a pocket diaper or two instead of a package of disposables.

Now, I'd say I'm saving, finally and I save about $15-$20 a week. But really, it's hard to say since I've never bought a package of disposable diapers myself. Never will, either.

I would say I save about 10 dollars a week for the entire first year of cloth diapering (calculated by: a. adding up the cost of the cloth diapers, detergent, and washing/drying b. subtracting the cloth diaper amount from the approximate amount I would spend on disposables in a year c. dividing the savings over 52 weeks). After the first year it will be all savings minus the amount I spend on washing and detergent :) !

Per week we use about 56 diapers. That would be about $20 plus a little more for disposable wipes. I've spent a little extra money on my diaper stash for convenience sake (daddy and daycare) and we started when he was already 14 months old. If he potty learns at 2 1/2 years, we'll have spent about $11 a week on the diapers and all the accessories. So, even though we have convenient diapers and started a bit late in the game, we are still saving at LEAST $10 a week by using cloth diapers!

We save around $15/week – that's an estimate assuming we would be using Luvs otherwise. Maybe a little more, since I never factored in disposable wipes, Diaper Genie refills, or gas for trips to the store to buy diapers. LOVE cloth!

For the first 6 months of cloth diapering I was determined to prove they were cheaper, even doing it the new and improved way with nice cloth diapers, sprayer, wet bags, and everything! The innitial cost of cloth diapering is alot but within a couple months it evened out, and by 5-6 months we were in the green! no pun intended lol. But per week I"d say we save at least $30 in diapers, and then we save by not having to purchase diaper ointments, gas money running to the store for buying diapers, save not having to purchase wipes, …. so much to save on! You'd save even more if you use prefolds and covers! But if you do it the fun way like I do with all the new style pockets or AIO diapers and all the awesome amenities it still saves a quite a bit of money!

  421. SAPsMaMa said...

We save at least $30 a week on diapers, wipes, not having to use any ointments, etc. even with using the nice pocket diapers and everything else like diaper sprayers it's much cheaper than disposibles!

15$ a week is what I am thinking we used to pay.. We are getting ready to have another baby here though so that would have gone up had we not started using cloth. We will have 3 2.5 and younger.

  476. happy mom said...

I guess after washing, the use of water and electric costs, the upfront cost (has paid off two fold) I am saving about $30 or more a week. My almost two year old uses about 5 diapers a day and my almost 4 month old uses…I lost count… so If I was using disposables I would be paying much more than I could afford and pileing up the garbage cans with waste. I used disposables when we flew to visit family and I wanted to cry at the waste in the basket.

I save about $8 a week using cloth diapers. Olivia is 13.5 mos now so she doesn't need changed as often as a smaller baby would. She only was going through about a smaller pack of Luvs a week when we switched. Using cloth for only 3 mos completely covers the amount I jsut spent on new diapers!

I've used cloth on and off for 6.5 yrs now. My oldest is almost 7 and we started when he was 3 mos old and then I've gone back and forth between cloth and sposies for the last 3 kids. My youngest is 13.5 mos and we just made the switch back to cloth full time!
