Fluff Friday Winner from Week 22!!!!!

This entry was submitted by Andrea L. and is the winner of a $25 Gift Card to Kelly's Closet!

This story wasn't so funny at the time, but it is looking back. Looking forward to the reading the results of the contest!

When we were still in that period of constant sleep deprivation that comes with a newborn baby, we sometimes got a little lazy. One of the things we did (since our baby co-sleeps) was to keep a few of his Bum Genius diapers in bed with us and just do midnight changes without getting up. The end result was that there were often a few dirty diapers at the foot of the bed.
One morning I woke up and noticed that there were quite a few yellow spots on our white sheets. Our cat had stuck both of her front feet into one of the (very) dirty diapers and walked around on the bed.
The best part was when my long-suffering husband (who had the cat foisted on him when we got married and the cloth diapers foisted on him when we decided that I should stay at home) woke up to find that he had a few spots of mustard yellow poop on his chest too from when the cat slept on him. He told the cat that he was going to sell her to the Gypsies-- luckily she caught a mouse later that day and got back into everyone's good graces.

Cloth diapering provides additional hilarity to an already amusing time in our lives as parents, when funny and silly stories are aplenty! However, what about the silly things we do?

The other day I was feeling really crummy. I was tired, I had a headache and my tummy wasn’t feeling so great – the whole nine yards. As we sat down for dinner I was not even in the mood to eat so my oldest daughter, Aaliyah, asked “Mama, why aren’t you eating?”

“I don’t feel good sweetie. I have cramps.”

Well, we all know how well children actually hear sometimes – so she asked with the funniest confused expression, “You have CRAYONS?”

LOL! Ok, so I could see if she had mistaken crabs for cramps, but crayons?

“No, sweetie… mama has pains in her belly.”

“Ohhhh… you have paints and crayons in your belly.”

Honestly, it hurt to laugh but I just couldn’t help myself! I suppose that would make all the sense in the world for a 4 year old… after all, can anyone imagine feeling well if they had paints and crayons inside their belly?

My husband, seizing the opportunity to tease me, told my daughter, “You’re just going to have to get used to your mommy. She never feels good.”

Naturally I tried to defend despite knowing my husband was teasing… so went on to say I wasn’t sure what in the world was causing the pain. I knew I wasn’t pregnant (I had taken at least 5 pregnancy tests in the last few months just to be sure since I’m a Fertile Myrtle) – and my cycle hadn’t retuned since the baby was born nearly 6 months ago…

Well, lo and behold – a few hours later I discovered the problem. It turned out my cycle finally decided to return. Unfortunately, I was fully unprepared. Ok, so I had a panty liner… ummm, yeah that wasn’t going to work for the ensuing tidal wave. I was also in absolutely no mood to go to the store so I asked dear hubby, despite knowing his answer before even asking, if he would go to the store and buy me something.

He looked at me, laughed and pointed in the direction of the changing table and said, “You’ve got all these diapers over there. Why not use those?” Men are soooo amusing, eh?!?

“I’m NOT wearing a diaper!”

“Well, you said you like to use natural stuff. How do you think the women did it back in the day? They used cloth.”

“Yeah, well… I’m not using my son’s diapers.”

Unfortunately, however, I needed something in a hurry! So with virtually no other options available I grabbed a flat diaper and folded it several times to the size of a maxi-pad and placed a homemade fleece liner on top. It felt very awkward wearing a monstrous sized makeshift cloth pad - but you know what? It worked!

Serves me right for not ordering some Mama Pads ahead of time from Kelly’s Closet knowing full well I would need them eventually… always better to be prepared ahead of time! However, I’m definitely looking forward to the Diva Cup which will be available at Kelly’s Closet, hopefully this week (this is a great alternative to pads – although I’d still like some for backup)!

Sweet Kiwi Pie; Deliciously Soft! There’s a new fitted in town; the Kiwi Pie fitted diaper!

Kiwi Pie diapers and products, such as the Kiwi Peel Wool Covers and WindPro Fleece covers are all handmade right here in the USA by the wonderful folks at The Natural Baby Company.

What makes the Kiwi Pie fitted diaper so special?
Unlike other one size fitted diapers on the market, these are not only cute to look at, but these are so soft, stretchy and really absorbent!

The diapers are made from a smooth texture bamboo fleece with a unique blend of bamboo and Lycra to give the diapers just that little bit of stretch. I have yet to try a fitted diaper that not only fits well but is oh-so-soft inside and out, while looking and feeling comfortable for baby all at the same time!

Each diaper comes with 2 sized lay-in soakers. These soakers can be used individually or snapped together and used in combination for maximum absorbency, without any significant bulk added! The lay-in soakers are great because:

You don’t have to worry about snapping it into place: You can adjust the location of the soaker to fit your little ones needs higher up front for a boy centered/higher up back for a girl

One of the highlights of this diaper which sets it apart from the other one-size fitted diapers is the hidden snaps at the waist! Other well loved one size fitted diapers utilize two rows of exposed snaps along the waist – and all too often these snaps create an unsightly red “snap belt” at the waist. Not a concern with the Kiwi Pie!

Additionally, Kiwi Pie eliminated the need for multiple rows of snaps entirely by utilizing the same quick and easy front snap rise adjustment like some of the beloved one size pocket diapers. Only one row of fully enclosed snaps so your little one’s skin is never in direct contact with a snap… FANTASTIC!

The cute factor: Kiwi Pie utilizes some of the cutest and colorful prints available for both boys and girls! Ooga Booga is our personal favorite – my daughter calls it the “germ” diaper… because the little Ooga Boogas look like the germs from a poster at our doctor’s office!

Lastly, the Kiwi Pie diapers are reasonably priced for the quality and the materials used… so help yourself, and your little one, to a slice of these wonderful Kiwi Pie diapers today!

PhotobucketAs I read the post "Diapering Times Two!" post I remembered I had written about one of my adventures from a couple of months ago! I thought you and yours might get a laugh out of it, since you all can appreciate a good cloth diaper story.

I was sitting on my favorite chair with my children, watching Toy Story 2, when suddenly there was an abnormally intense stench of poop. I looked down to notice that Glory, my two-year-old, had taken her poopie FuzziBunz off (again!) and placed it on my chest, and the big ball of poop rolled out onto my shirt.

(note: when you have five little kids climbing on you, spitting on you, hugging and delivering toys, shoes, and miscellaneous items from all over the house, then you can kind of understand how she could plop a diaper on my chest while I'm zoned out in front of a movie without noticing...)

UGH! I scooped the poop back into the cloth diaper and grabbed Glory's hand; off to the changing table we go, poop smeared down her legs. I plopped the poo in the toilet and then plopped Glory on the changing table. Alas, out of cloth wipes!

I scrounge around for a dirty shirt, or something, and dunk it into my wipes solution. By now her poo has smeared all over the changing table that didn't have a cover on it (can someone say LAUNDRY BACKED-UP?). She holds up her dainty little hand to show me it's covered with poop. I wipe off her hand, finish diapering her, and then go wash her hands. Meanwhile, Frank (my then 7 months old) starts crying.

After finishing Glory off I went out to the livingroom and fetched Frank out of his Johnny-Jumper. Mother knows... he must have pooped.

So back to the changing table I went. Upon opening up his FuzziBunz I saw exactly what I expected- only worse! Because he was in his Jumper the poo had gone up his back. (but thankfully not out the back of the diaper- gotta love those FuzziBunz!)

OOPS! I forgot! I don't have any wipes! So I left Frank on the changing table and went scrounging for something, ANYTHING, that could resemble a cloth wipe. I grabbed an old sock. But while I was gone not only did he smear that which was still stuck on his rear onto the changing table, but he was also kicking the dirty diaper, so his feet were also covered with poop.
Photobucket

I grabbed another dirty shirt to use as a barrier between his rear and the changing table pad, went to dunk the sock into the wipes water to find that the wipes water tub was out of water!!!!!!!!! So I ran to the sink and filled it quick, returned to the table, wiped Frank down and got him new clothes. Don't forget, I had a poop ball on my chest before all this started, and the stench reminded me. So I changed into a fresh shirt and sprayed his dirty diaper out with the diaper sprayer!

When I returned to the other four children they were still quietly watching the movie... except for a few stray chunks of fried chicken on the living room floor that Glory had got into while I was diapering Frank, the house had gone unscathed during my diapering adventures. I sat down on the couch with the kids and...

.... Frank threw up on my clean shirt.

Ahhhh, the adventures of parenting! Life would be so boring without children!
