When I first considered the prospect of cloth diapering our second child (born before Thanksgiving last year), I wondered how I would “break” the news to my hubby. Thankfully, my husband was a great help in changing diapers with our first child – but I knew his mental perception of cloth diapers would be prefolds-rubber pants-diaper pins (that’s not to say I don’t like my prefolds too). After discussing my thoughts on cloth diapering he told me it was entirely up to me… BUT, not to expect him to participate much with changing cloth diapers. I surmised his response would be such, however I took it as my “go-ahead” for my initial step into the cloth diapering world. What a wonderful first step to take because I discovered I absolutely LOVE cloth diapering!
As I started receiving packages in the mail with All-in-One’s and pocket diapers – my husband quickly realized cloth diaper was not only going to be a significant money savings as well as a positive impact on the environment, but it was going to be EASY! We’ve cloth diapered for a little over a year now and I’m proud to say my husband has changed MANY cloth diapers and has never complained! As the holidays approach I reflect on the many things to be thankful for when it comes to my cloth diapering decision…
- I am thankful that we have saved hundreds of dollars over the past year of not having to purchase disposables, wipes, and diaper rash creams.
- I am thankful for not having to haul out enormous bags of dirty disposables to the trash can every few days.
- I am most thankful for being able to work together as a team with my hubby to do something meaningful for our kids and important for our environment.
