We are new to cloth diapering, but I have estimated that by buying one size cloth diapers at a one time up front cost, we will save about $40-50 per month in comparison to buying disposables!

I think I'm saving close to $50 a month as compared to using Costco or Wal-Mart brand disposables and wipes- I'm using prefolds, fitteds I sewed out of recycled fabric, and Thirsties and Proraps covers. Plus a few other misc. diapers.

Anonymous said...

Gosh, now that I've broken even on stash costs, I think we're saving $80-100 per month!

I know we are saving at least $40 a month with my 2.5 year old. Now with the newborn we are probably saving close to $60 since she is powering through diapers.

My rent includes my water bill (weather I use it or not), so I would guess that I save $10 a week or $40 a month!!
And I wash every night--so it only took us two months to recoup cost on the diapers we bought!!

My guess is $50 a month, but I've never bought disposables (only priced them out) regularly, so I'm not sure.

Melissa said...

We haven't tried CD yet, but our 2nd son is 8.5 months old and we are considering starting. We estimate that at this point in Size 3 Luvs diapers, we would save $29.42/month at a rate of 6 diapers per day.

That's 180 diapers per month we could keep out of the landfill, for the next 19 months (if he PT's as quickly as our oldest son did!).

Wowza! That's 3420 diapers we could keep out of the landfill! Not to mention saving around $550 doing it!

Attila & Tamara said...

Right now with PT cloth diapering we are saving about $15-$20. When we go Full time we will save around $40 (more if we use cloth wipes, too!)--Yeah!!!

Well, let's see. We were going through approximately 1 1/2 boxes of diapers a month. And if I'm buying Pampers which we did on occasion we're saving apx. $30.00. But if I bought Luvs which is more like what we did, I'm saving apx. $25.00.

We also have been using cloth wipes for a month or two now, so I'm now also saving about $10 on a box of wipes as well!

subtracting $2 for water and soap usage, I'd say around $78/month. The last time I bought 'sposies was before we moved her in May, and it was around $20 for 38 diapers I think. x4 weeks minus laundry costs. Not bad, really.
