My Cloth Diapering Journey

It's official, it has happened to me...I have become a cloth diapering addict! I never thought that sentence would come out of my mouth! But now, not only do I say it, I say it to just about any one who will listen!

I spent two years buying disposables for my oldest child who exploded out of them on nearly a daily basis when she was an infant. She was like a ticking time bomb for who ever was holding her at the moment of detonation! I was so frustrated but never even thought to change to cloth diapers.

That is, until I was pregnant with my second child and my sister-in -law (who was also expecting) told me she was going to cloth diaper her baby. I was taken aback; did people still do that type of thing?

Like many women my age, I had heard my mom tell me stories about cloth diapering and it sounded like a LOT of work...not to mention the "gross-factor". Besides, I thought cloth diapers would never hold in more poo than a disposable! But, after that, the idea stuck in my head. I started to do some research online about the different types of cloth diapers and all that entails. I was quickly hooked.

It turned out that cloth diapering looked like it could be the solution to all my diaper-explosion problems as well as having so many more benefits. Just to name a few, saving a huge amount of money (which is increasingly important for everyone in this economy), being a little more eco-friendly by eliminating so much trash from disposables, no more diaper rash, and the fact that they are just so cute!

Now, I am nearly ten months along in my cloth diapering journey and have never once had a dreaded diaper explosion! I couldn't be happier with my decision to switch to cloth diapers and would never go back!

I have never had a diaper explosion with cloth either, and that's my favorite thing about cloth diapering. I used disposables when my daughter was a newborn and then I used to use disposables when we would go out on errands or to church. I can't even count the number of times I had to deal with disgusting blowouts. I no longer use disposables (except on very rare occasions), and I love being able to trust the cloth diapers to hold everything inside.

My daughter also hasn't had any explosions (unless the diaper isn't on tight enough but those are still rare) in cloth diapers and I hated all the disposable mess. I'm a believer and am igniting the flame in my circle of friends.

It is so easy to become an addict - I just had my pediatrician ask for details about Big Sister's diapers.

Me too! I have a 23 month old and a 4.5 month old and I really wish I had tried cloth the first time! I also love the one size diapers because I can use them on boy of my boys. I <3 cloth!!

We had the same problem with diaper explosions w DD1 and disposables- and NEVER had a problem w DD2 or DD3 and our cloth diapers! Who would have thought? I certainly did not, but experience taught me otherwise!

Gotta love cloth--we have never had an "explosion" in 8 months of cloth diapering. Our only mishaps were the very few times we had to use disposables.

Way to go on converting to cloth!

I have been really amazed by the lack of explosions with cloth too. Just another way cloth is better.

I wish I would have known about cloth diapers when my daughter was born, because she alwayssssss had explosions!! Geeeez... we would always have to change her clothes everytime! You were right, its easy to be an addict of cloth diapers!

I made sure my baby was in cloth for her first plane ride. I couldn't risk a blowout in such a tiny, crammed space.

I only just ordered my first cloth diapers online this past weekend. I don't think they are going to arrive in time for our week long vacation to Louisiana, which means we'll have to use disposables that whole week, and I'll be tortured knowing that my fantastic cloth ones are at home waiting on us! Sad.

I too have been converted to the cloth diapering addiction. It has just been a little less than a month and I am loving CD. I find myself surfing online and looking at cloth diaper deals.

My daughter just had her 3-month old Dr well visit and he also commented about her cloth diaper. Being a Dr, I would imagine him seeing all kinds of diapers on babies, but no... he has never seen this kind of diaper and even asked my DH (he brought our daughter in that day) about the diapers and how cool it was and where I found it.

I've been CDing for a few months and I am SO addicted! My daughter gets HORRIBLE diaper rash in disposables and she never gets it in cloth. I wish I had started the day she was born.

I too have pootastic babies that explode out of their diapers. But not with the cloth! Fluffy butt = clean clothes!!! And NO rash either. Just wish I had done it with my first baby... we had to carry no less than 3 outfits whenever we went out. Ah... hindsight is always 20/20.

I had a friend call right before she had her baby. She had been researching diapers because she was so grossed out at the thought of blowouts. She said she was sure she didn't want to use cloth, but was curious how many blowouts we had with cloth. She was shocked to hear we never had a single one. By the end of the conversation she was online ordering a full stash!

No explosions from cloth diapers for us either, except for when we didn't have the leg holes tight enough. And that was easily remedied! We've been CDing for over two months of my son's almost 8 months of life, and I only wish we had started sooner!

I cannot agree more completely - cloth is much better at containing diaper messes. I used disposables on my first and really wish I had known about the many advantages of cloth diapers!

i have had explosions...but it doesn't deter me from using them!

I swear my only explosions have been when we use an occasional disposable. Cloth just contains it better!

Initially I wasn't planning on using cloth diapers, but after I realized how flippin' expensive it would be to keep using disposables I decided to use cloth diapers.

Ordering my first set of cloth diapers on Friday! Smartipants!!

Me too! I just LOVE it!

It is so funny how the cloth diapering journey often begins the same way for many moms. A little seed is planted and then the internet research waters it into a great, big, fun addiction. :)

I never thought cloth diapers would do a better job of holding in breastfed newborn poo's but the disposables weren't cutting it and once I switched to cloth I never went back either (or had an explosion!) YAY!!

How did we live without them?!

When I first heard about cloth diapers and the stories of dunking them in the toilet I thought that there was no way that we would ever use cloth when we had the luxury of disposables. I'm glad that I was open minded and gave them a try! We've never had a poopslosion with cloth and I haven't turned back since

I wish we'd started cloth diapering earlier, I was so discouraged by my friends and families comments we didn't start until Ava was almost 1. I'm so glad we did though!

yay! No explosions! If we use a disposable now and then on vacation or something they always blowout. It's such a pain, cloth is way better!

It is so easy to become addicted - I my baby isn't even born yet and I am always looking at diapers online (and have even made purchases)!
