  4. I love the concept of aplix because it seems like it gives the diaper a better fit and you can get it more secure, its also pretty quick. However the aplix doesnt hold up too well in washing (in my experience) so I usually go with snaps.

I like both aplix and snap for different reasons. I love aplix because I can put them on really fast and get a more custom fit.

I like snaps because they don't wear out like aplix and stay on more securely.

I prefer snaps, even though there are some period where the fit is not perfect, the litte one usually outgrows these periods pretty fast, and soon enough, back to nice fit!

I havent used a snap diaper so I would like to try one out. The aplix seems to grab ahold of everything (both the kind used on gro baby's and the other kind)Also my baby likes to grab ahold of the aplix and tear it open, which has been a fun experience recently. BTW I think your commenting rules are just too complicated. Let everyone get one chance per giveaway.

SNAPS! I so heart SNAPS, and here's why. Aplix is delightfully easy, but one night I heard this strange ripping sound, and low and behold what was it? The aplix on my lil' boy's BG undoing itself!
That said, I have to be honest, and the aplix used by the people over at the natural baby company do a lovely job with their aplix, and it is the finest i've come across.

  42. Laura said...

I only use aplix, but I'd love to try the snaps- it seems like they'd last longer and be harder for the baby to undo herself.

  43. Heather M said...

I really don't have a preference, but I guess snaps so they can't come undone and get stuck to other diapers!

Im kind of torn on aplix v. snaps. I love the fit of aplix diapers in the waist on my chunky 30 lb.er but he can take them off to easily now that he is 18 months old and figured them out. Our stash is more snaps now that he is older. Would get more aplix for a newborn (if we have anymore.)

It wasn't that long ago that I would have definately been in the aplix camp. Aplix is quick and easy and I think it's also easier on other people take care of my daughter because it more closely resembles what the general public is used to on a diaper.

However, recently my daughter at 13 months, has begun undoing the aplix. So now, I'll have to change my mind and say "SNAPS"

    Hey there,

We're not new to the cloth diapering concept – but lack experience with anything other than basic flatfolds/prefolds, diaper pins and plastic pants. Our "basics" are starting to get worn out and I actually was just doing some online research about what else is "out there" when I stumbled on this sight.

To get to the heart of your question: From the reviews I've read so far (mostly from other site's reviews), I'm thinking I would prefer the snap option. What I've read from many is that the aplix does not wear in the wash as well – and endurance is a key factor I'm considering as I hope to make purchases that will last for multiple children. So…for now, I'm preferring snaps.
    Thanks!

  104. marvism17 said...

We have a mixture of both snaps and Aplix in our collection. I don't know that I have a favorite. Snaps are good for not scratching up tender belly skin, but are harder to close on a wiggly tot. Aplix is lickety-split and the diaper is on, but there can be that scratch factor. :)

I prefer the Aplix or other hook and loop style closures. I have one diaper with snaps, a very popular brand, and I detest it. The snaps are too complicated to line up properly, and it takes me five minutes to figure them out. Needless to say, by that point, she's crawled across the floor and I'm holding an empty diaper. Aplix for me all the way!

I think I would like the snaps better than aplix because I would worry that the aplix would become "fuzzy" or pill. I think it would be ideal to have a set of cloth diapers last long enough to use with more than one baby.

I like both for different reasons. Snaps work well for my toddler because she knows how to undo the Aplix. But the Aplix is easier when she's wriggling everywhere.

I think I prefer the snaps better just because I know velcro can curl up. Also, lint or hairs can stick to it and I would end up picking at it! But maybe with cloth diapers I would be more careful in taking care of it and would not mind trying out diapers with velcro closures. The upside to it is that it's easier to use than snaps on a wiggly baby!

We prefer snaps. Our original stash of BG 3.0 with aplix just hasn't held up. I've heard that some of them had bad aplix and other are just fine, but ours are curly, don't stick to the laundry tabs anymore, and make a big diaper snake in the washer. Cotton Babies has fantastic customer support and sent me free aplix replacement parts, but it's still a hassle to have to re-sew it all. We've now switched to Fuzzi Bunz for the snaps.

  287. Natalie said...

Since our baby is due in September, we still have not used any diapers yet. However, so far, in looking at the various diapers, I have really enjoyed the snaps more. I also have a friend who uses disposables with the velcro tabs and she find her daughter is able to remove the diaper WAY too easily!! So, I think snaps might be a great way to go!

Snap diapers are my all-time favorite. They are easy to use, launder fabulously and typically the diapers look brand new even after more than a year of full-time use. Aplix is annoying in the laundry, laundry tabs wear out eventually-leading to diaper chains and aplix grabbing and snagging other diapers and wearing the fabrics faster. I didn't realize how annoying aplix is until I had my Bum Genius for more than 3 months…and by a year of use, well the aplix works but barely, and mostly it just snags my other diapers. I bought a whole new stash of side snapping diapers this spring (for the arrival of our second baby), and finally we retired ALL our aplix diapers–yippee so glad I did! Laundry for two babies in cloth is so much simpler/faster with SNAP diapers!

Pros and cons to each. I love the minute adjustability of aplix, but after 4 months of solid use of BumGenius aplix, it is coming loose and is not as fixable as what I thought it'd be. Plus, it pills up and doesn't look as professional as snaps, though that is a purely aesthetic point. I don't like how aplix sticks to everything, even if you have it fixed to the laundry tabs.

I like the quality of snaps and the fact that babies can't undo them as easily as aplix. BUT, I wonder if it works as well on one size diapers, where more of a range of adjustability is required.

That said, I'm going with snaps with any new diaper I get.

I'm a snap fan. They hold up so much better over time. The largest reason we do cloth diapers is the long tern cost investment vs the long term continual cost. Every time I purchase a aplix type diaper I feel like its defieting the purpose because the get so yucky in the wash.

I have both and use both equally. They both have their unique pros and cons. But I will say that I haven't ever heard of one complaining that their child was known for removing their snap diaper. Well low and behold my 21 month figured out how to unsnap today. Result = wet bed + dry diaper. He never has removed a diaper before now aplix or snap. I used to be velcro-only, then as they wore out and DD got good at getting out of them – I turned to snaps and LOVE THEM.

But I'm intrigued by the supposed wonderfulness of the GroBaby hook & loop, and would happily try either one.

I usually will pick snaps. There is no laundry tab to worry about. And no little streaker around the house. However, I feel that when a baby is little, aplix gets a better fit.

I like the aplix closure better b/c my child is squirmy that snaps are difficult.

I LOVE the ease of hook and loop…but they just don't hold up. I am currently switching my stash to snaps.

I like the velco, provided the tabs stay closed in the wash! Don't need diaper chains! =)
