Show and Tell - Stash Post

Some women have an addiction to shoes, and/or handbags, even electronics (yes, women can be addicted to electronics too). However, we become moms and for most, those addictions change. High heeled shoes are replaced with comfy flats; handbags are replaced with diaper bags (don’t fret, there are some really cute and trendy diaper bags out there to accessorize with)… but I don’t think many even consider an addiction to diapers, unless you cloth diaper of course!

By now, many of you know I’m not only in LOVE with cloth diapers but addicted too! I’ve had to give myself a monthly allowance to prevent me from buying virtually everything on Kelly’s Closet. Thankfully, with the Diaper Dollars™ program we all get rewarded for shopping at Kelly’s Closet; so I like to reward myself! LOL!

With all that said – people have often asked, “What exactly is in your stash?” and “What do you like best, and what, if anything, do you not like?”

So here’s a list of the diapers I currently have on hand:
16 Blueberry One Size pockets
22 bumGenius One Size 3.0 pockets
10 bumGenius One Size Organic All-in-Ones (Snaps and Hook/Loop)
1 bumGenius Deluxe All-in-One 3.0 (Medium)
2 Bumwear One Size Batik Print pockets
1 Drybees Pocket
7 Fuzzi Bunz Seconds (Medium)
1 Fuzz Bunz One Size (The original version 1.0 one-size NOT the newer version that is still waiting to be released through Kelly’s Closet)
1 GoodMama One Size Fitted
8 Happy Heiny’s One Size pockets (Aplix)
2 Happy Heiny’s One Size pockets (Snaps)
4 Happy Heiny’s Pull-up Trainers
1 Kissaluv’s Fitted
5 Kiwi Pie One Size Fitteds
1 Mommy’s Touch Pocket
1 Mommy’s Touch All-in-One
1 Muttaqin Baby One Size Fitted
1 Rocky Mountain One Size pocket
1 Soft Bums One Size All-in-Two w/3 Organic Bamboo Velour soakers
2 Wahmies One Size pockets (Hooks)
8 dozen Prefolds (from newborn/infant through premium/toddler)
14 Thirsties Covers (7 small and 7 medium)
1 Wonder Wraps One Size Cover
6 pairs of Diaper pins
4 Snappi’s

Ok, so needless to say I have a TON of diapers in my stash. (Still waiting for y’all to pick your jaws off the floor, LOL) And, I’m anxiously awaiting, like the rest of you, the release of other diapers such as the improved Fuzz Bunz One Size Version 2.0.

Now, I hear you asking, “Serena, why so many diapers?”

In all honesty, I really like trying a little of everything. BUT, I also like being able to provide a well-rounded and experienced opinion for all you mamas and Diaper Shops customers (Kelly’s Closet, Fuzzi Bunz Online, One Size Diaper Store, and Bulk Cloth Diaper). Every baby is unique and with so many cloth diapering options out there, it’s truly a challenge trying to figure out what is going to work best for you and your little one! And we’re always here to help with real (and honest) hands-on experience!

Additionally, I like having some diapers to leave at my parents house (Nana and Papa)… so the bumGenius pocket diapers with the hook and look (Velcro) closures are great for the hesitant grandparent(s)!

Lastly, I want more babies so I plan to be cloth diapering more little bums to come!

What exactly do I like best?

That depends on my mood! Some days I thoroughly enjoy using prefolds and covers other days I like my all-in-one’s and pocket diapers, and most recently I started appreciating fitted diapers.

My current diaper favorites are:

bumGenius One Size Organic All-in-Ones (snaps)
Soft Bums All-in-Two
Blueberry One Size diaper

The bumGenius One Size Organic All-in-One is really a wonderful grab and go diaper which features soft organic cotton; and with the wonderful stretchy bumGenius tabs, it’s easy to get the right fit every time (and super trim)!

Soft Bums All-in-Two diaper is one of THE trimmest cloth diapers I’ve had the pleasure of using! While it is a one size diaper but it is NOT a pocket… the “inserts” are actually soakers which snap in and are very soft and absorbent (I have the bamboo velour/organic cotton soakers). Once you get over the sticker shock, these are really are worth the money!

My next top favorite one size is the Blueberry One Size diaper. Blueberry uses a combination of micro-terry and hemp cotton for a super absorbent, yet trim, insert (which also makes the diaper relatively trim compared to other one size diapers). I like these diapers best for my trips outside the house (they also come is a lovely variety of colors, as well as snaps or touch tape to accommodate your personal preferences).

What is your least favorite?

Previously I didn’t quite understand the all the rage with fitted diapers. So, a couple months ago I convinced myself to buy a couple used fitteds when I noticed them online in the Gently Used Diapers category on Kelly’s Closet (I do daily window shopping to add to my wish list). After trying them I still didn’t quite “get it.” Fitteds are so very soft and fluffy but since they require a diaper cover, I couldn’t really appreciate the adorable prints!

However, most recently my little one developed a yeast rash and my husband kept complaining that his pocket diapers looked like they were too tight and the material was just “too hot” in his opinion (despite my assurance that the PUL fabric is relatively thin and does allow to air to circulate). He insisted on opening up the baby’s diapers and leaving him exposed… I, on the other hand, was so fearful that his sprinkler might go off at any moment; so I grabbed the fitteds and put those on the baby instead. Upon inspection, my husband liked and approved the fitteds.

FANTASTIC! That just gave me an excuse to buy more diapers. With the rash, the fitteds allowed me to cover my little one with the wonderful softness of cloth, but also be more attentive to when he needed a change by going coverless (and I was then able to enjoy the cute and oh-so-soft fabrics).

Therefore, I’m hesitant to say that fitteds are my least favorite because I now appreciate them. The only downside is having to cover up all that lusciously soft and adorable fabric. (I *just* got my order of Kiwi Pie fitteds. I’m sooooo excited to try them out!)

What system do you use at night?
For my little man I use the use the bumGenius One Size 3.0 pocket diapers and occasionally some Fuzzi Bunz Seconds in Mediums. Surprisingly my little guy isn’t currently a heavy wetter at night. I typically use either the two micro-terry inserts that come with each bumGenius One Size 3.0 diaper, or a prefold with a bumGenius micro-terry doubler.

Since both of my daughters are night-time wetters, I use Happy Heiny’s Pocket Trainers stuffed with a premium prefold on my oldest daughter, and a variety of one size pocket diapers for my youngest darling daughter (usually bumGenius, Happy Heiny’s, and Fuzzi Bunz).

There’s nothing worse than being woken up in the middle of the night to the cries of, “MAMA I LEAKED!” Or having woken-up to find that I AM WET because the leak from the disposable pull-ups/diapers spread through the bed and over to me! Thanks to cloth diapers and training pants our bed sheets (and children’s pajamas) are dry in the mornings!

Ps. My husband came home earlier than I had expected and happened to catch me taking pictures of the ‘THE stash.’

“We really have ALL of these diapers!” Accompanied by the priceless look on his face, I knew I had a lot of explaining to do! HAHA!

I gotta have Hubby come and read this. He just doesn't get it. We have all that we need and he just cannot see the reason for wanting more. So, I am left to score the internet for giveaways and hope. :)

WOW!!!! I am supremely jealous!!! That is a lot of diapers!!!

haha, I can only imagine what my husband would do if he came home and discovered I had that many diapers...goodness. I only have 14 diapers so they are heavily used and all the BG are barely staying closed anymore. Bah.

Thanks for this post! (:

Here's me drooling over your stash.....I'm oh so jealous. :)
My hubby was just asking about things I needed (wanted) to spend $$ on and I replied, "cloth diaper, of course!!"

HOLY MOLY - that is a lot of diapers... I'd love to have a stash that big - how fun!! The Kiwi Pie Fitteds look so cute - but I haven't been brave enough to go coverless yet (with anything). Maybe I'll give it a shot!!

OH my goodness - I was just thinking yesterday, I think I am addicted to cloth diapers... every time I get something via email about a coupon or new product at Kelly's Closet - I think - I should get that...I was counting all the diapering products we have and though it isn't as much as Sarena's =) it's still plenty for 2 little guys... or IS IT?? ;) I was thinking yesterday - I REALLY don't need anything else.. then I thought WAIT a minute... I don't need... I'm not the one wearing these diapering my boys.. and they don't seem to be showing me any signs that they are unhappy with the amount of diapers they have. Anyway- good to know that I am not the only one who is a cloth diaper addict. =)

Love it! I would like to have a stash like that. I really want to try out different kinds of diapers, but for right now I pretty much stick to Bum Genius and Fuzzi Bunz, because I know they work for us. But I think I am going to branch out on my next purchase...that is if I can justify another diaper purchase to my husband!

Thanks for the reviews. That is genuinely extremely helpful.

Great post Serena! I've got a pretty big stash myself (with more on the way from KC right now), but your stash is a big bigger. I'm jealous. At first I didn't get the whole fitted thing either. I bought some Thirsties Fab Fitted for my oldest, and they didn't work at all. However, they seem to work great for my younger son now that he's growing into them. I just ordered my first Kiwi Pie this past weekend, and I think I will let my little guy go coverless at home so I can see the cute print every once in a while.

Had to laugh at your husband walking in on you taking a picture of your stash. I think my husband would have the same reaction. I think he's starting to understand though - he doesn't say a word when I buy more diapers unless I go over my monthly diaper budget.

WOW! That is a LOT of diapers! I bet it's fun to have a lot to choose from... I have about 32 diapers, but they are made up of only two different types. I'm glad to hear you like most of your diapers... it really shows how many great diapers there are out there!

WOW!! That is an amazing list of diapers! I have a feeling I am going to be one of the women who just can't get enough diapers in my stash. My husband is never going to understand! He thinks we should just go with prefolds.....not my first choice by a long shot.

Thanks so much for this post and for the stash picture. I LOVE seeing peoples' cd stashes!

Holy cow! You have some DIAPERS!!! Now, to show DH your picture and convince him that is a "normal" sized stash, lol!

I love the post...my husband just shakes his head and says "you spend a lot of time thinking about our kids butts" whenever I bring up cloth diapers!

I'm a new mom, I used to sleep whenever my baby sleeps, but now when she sleeps I look for CD sales! I still only have prefolds and just splurged (on a tight budget it was a splurge) for 3 BGs. Now that you rated your favs I want the Organic BG and SoftBums next!

I really enjoyed reading this post! Thanks for sharing your stash! It's beautiful! Cloth diapers really are an addiction. It's so nice to read something written by someone who understands. All my friends think I'm insane.

LOL! I love the story at the end with the husband wakling in! Sounds like something that would happen to me!!

I am truly envious of your stash! I also am trying to get one or two of different brands of diaper to try them all out. I'm no where near as far as you though. :)

Erika said...

Wow! What a stash! I don't have anywear near that many, but truthfully (and unfortunately because I love to shop) I feel like we have a good number for now.

mommasboys said...

I love your stash! I have the same problem wanting to try everything out there. But i would have to say that i love my fitteds!!!!

Andrea said...

I wish I had a stash like that! I agree on the fitteds-- they're so cute that you hate to cover them. Sometimes I just leave my son in them without a cover when we're hanging around at home.

wow! That is incredible. wow!

That is a LOT of diapers!! As far as the fitteds, they are great around the house on a walking baby with no cover...they are absorbent enough that we haven't had any leaks on the floor or furniture & going without a cover makes me more conscience of needing to change the baby frequently enough. The velcro also makes it easy for my toddler to get it off herself quickly when she wants to use the potty. The Kiwi do look adorable, they are on my wishlist.

Wow! It is awesome that you've been able to try out all those diapers. I admit that I am jealous, but am glad I splurged to start out my stash with Blueberry diapers. I saw them on sale and couldn't pass up the rave reviews on Kelly's Closet. I really like them. I also just started using some prefolds and I like them a lot. It's nice not to have to wear out the covers so fast by washing them continually (I have a total of 9 pockets, 4 covers and 6 prefolds - I've only been cloth diapering about a month). I really like to use a fleece liner to have my daughter feel dry in her prefolds just like in her pockets! Thanks for the reviews - very helpful - I'll keep it in mind when I add to my little stash.

Whoa! I have a hard time justifying my own cd purchases to my husband and I don't even have enough to last two days yet!
I don't think I could ever justify to myself even for having that many diapers unless I had sextuplets or something!

I just got to say that i so know that ADDICTION side to this i CD my DD till we PT and lets just say my STASH was HUGE! my Hubby was sure glad to see the habit go lol

This is an awesome stash! It's crazy how addicting cloth diapering can be. :)

I LOVE how the Soft Bums fit, but it's definitely my least absorbent diaper. I'd be curious to know if you've had issues with absorbency with that one, or if perhaps my expectations are too high(the rest of our diapers use microfiber inserts, and I feel like those hold A LOT)?

That is quite the impressive collection btw—so fun!

Add me to the list of "extremely jealous"! I would love to have all those choices when I change my daughter's bum! :)

That's hilarious! I think it's funny how the husbands just don't understand the cloth diaper addiction! :) Well, I'll know who to ask if I have a question about something I've been thinking about buying! :)

That is some stash! I am glad you are willing to go out and try some many different kinds to help us other mammas out in figuring out what might work and what might not work. I had been a PF gal for so long and now that I ventured out to the pocket realm with BGs and FBs I am once again content. Not that I wasn't content with my PFs, I was just too cheap to try anything else. But I have definitely found a new true love in my FBs. Maybe with two in diapers in a couple of months I will want to add to my stash and venture out again. Thanks for the post.

I'm so jealous!!! We don't plan to have more children, so my hubby isn't keen on expanding our stash beyond the 30 BG 3.0 we have!

I love fitted I guess it is because I only had one and for a long time the fitted and prefolds were all that fit my baby, the fitted was so much easier than the prefolds.

And my dh says we have to many, LOL. Wait til I show him this :D I would love to have a stash as big as this... one day, one day ;)

I love the feedback you gave. I am going to be having my 3rd child in 26 days :) and I am CDing for the first time. I am doing prefolds and covers purely bc of cost issues but am hoping to someday get an AIO!

I'm jealous of the stash. I can't wait until my collection is as decorative as yours. I love the Blueberry diapers because of the cute prints. I hope that Bumgenius will come out with prints soon.

Wow, that is quite the stash! I've got one BG 3.0 in pink and I just got one Gro Baby so that makes 2 diapers in my stash.

Drool, I need to get busy building the stash already. Just need the cash to do it. LOL.

My daughter is 6 months old. I don't have alot of money to buy cloth diapers. I don't currently have any because I signed up for some on my baby shower registry and no one got any. I would love to do cloth diapering. But I also live in an apartment with no washer so I can only do laundry once a week unless I do it by hand. So I was looking at prefolds and covers. Can you tell me more about those?

ONCE upon a time.... said...

Wow, i thought i had a lot of diapers, and i only have 22!

I love that you are able to provide such honest opinions of all the different brands. I was a little worried when I got to the part about which ones you liked the least and saw my coveted KiwiPie dipes in the photo--but I read on and found I agreed with you totally. I'm waiting on my first KP diaper to arrive and can't wait to try it! Thanks for the info!
