The Cloth Diaper Whisperer's Husband: My Hero

In honor of Veteran's day I would like to honor my husband Scott Wels. Scott and I were married in April 2005 during his two week leave while doing a tour of duty in Iraq. Five days after we were married he went back to Iraq to finish his tour for another 6 months.

Scott is an amazing person. His military career started when he entered the Army as a private, in the armored cavalry in February 1982 as a way to pay for college, with aspirations of becoming an officer. He attended Seton Hall University ROTC, and commissioned as a2nd lieutenant at the age of 19. Scott attended and graduated flight school to become an Army Helicopter Pilot flying the CH-47 Chinook. His tours of duty include Honduras, Nicaragua, South Korea, and Iraq.

He had the honor flying in the opening ceremony of the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, specifically known as the Rings of Seoul. In February of 1999 he helped in the rescue mission to save employees trapped in the Chem Lawn explosion in Allentown, PA. He most recently trained a battalion of Iraqi soldiers to assume battle space in Al Qadisiyah Province of Iraq.

While in Iraq Scott took it upon himself to help a school of 380 children with much needed school supplies which he coordinated with the company he worked for in his civilian life, Organon. Scott is now home and is serving in the Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Scott is a wonderful step-Dad to Olivia and Hanz and is a proud new Daddy to his first son, Riley. Scott's dedication to his family and his love of country make me proud to be his wife. I thank him for all he has done for our family and the beautiful country that we live in.
